Buffy The Vampire Slayer actress Sarah Michelle Gellar has given birth to a baby girl.

A spokeswoman for the star said the 32-year-old gave birth to Charlotte Grace Prinze on Saturday, adding the family was "over the moon".

It is the actress' first child with her husband, actor Freddie Prinze Jr.

The pair met in 1997 while filming horror I Know What You Did Last Summer and they both starred in two Scooby Doo films. They married in 2002.

Freddie Prinze Jr will soon be seen in the forthcoming series of Kiefer Sutherland TV drama 24.

Gellar has just finished filming a pilot for HBO series, The Wonderful Maladys, which is due to air in the US next year.
