iPhone 4: June 24 UK release

The super slim and shiny iPhone 4 could be in the hands of UK customers on June 24.

The latest incarnation of the most iconic phone in the world is set to launch on O2, Orange and Vodafone.

While the smartphone is arguably not as revolutionary as some may have hoped for, it does have some exciting improvements. It will be the thinnest smartphone in the world with the highest resolution display, have a front facing camera for video calling, a larger battery and will run on a new operating system called iOS4.0 (working across devices).

Apple’s Chief Executive Steve Jobs unveiled the iPhone 4 yesterday, overcoming technical hiccups to show off its many features. He then finished his presentation by revealing the iPhone will be released on June 24 in the US.

However, we now know it will also launch in the UK, France, Germany and Japan. Jobs had said it would be released in 88 countries by the end of September.

And already O2, Orange and Vodafone have confirmed they will be stocking the iPhone 4.

O2 is offering a limited upgrade to the iPhone 4 for customers still in contract and have said it will provide more details in the coming days.

Ronan Dunne, UK Chief Executive of O2, said: “Apple has once again raised the bar with the iPhone 4. With 3 years’ experience in selling the iPhone we are well placed to support the new device with the best overall experience, including making it easy for new and existing customers to get their hands one.”

The network is allowing customers to register interest in the phone, as is Orange who issued a statement saying: “Orange UK will launch iPhone 4 on June 24th. Further information on pre-registration, pricing and tariff plans will be revealed in due course.”

It is not know how much the iPhone 4 will cost in the UK, although it will be $199 for a 16GB version and $299 for a 32Gb version in the US.
